1. General information
This subject deals with the work context of the ONE HEALTH philosophy and introduces the basis for the rest of the subjects of the master's degree. It introduces the components of global health (environment, people and animals), how they interact and how to study them to understand key aspects of emerging disease development and control measures for it. There is also the need to work integrating different disciplines (multidisciplinarity) to reach this understanding and thus solve present and future health challenges.
The acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to the achievement of each and every one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/).
2. Learning results
- To understand the basis of the One Health philosophy, its origin and future.
- To understand the causes of infections and diseases and their evolution from the individual to the population.
- To identify current and future determinants of disease emergence.
- To understand the epidemiological patterns of emerging diseases and their impact on global health.
- To understand the possibilities of response to diseases with an interdisciplinary perspective. To analyse the regulations and role of health organizations in the context of global health.

4. Academic activities
A- THEORETICAL CLASSES AND PRESENTATIONS BY EXTERNAL PROFESSIONALS. The contents of each topic will be uploaded to the ADD (Anillo Digital Docente), as well as examples, cases and additional bibliographic materials.
B- TRAINING ACTIVITY IN FIELD SCENARIO (voluntary field trip or substitute activity) (20 hours). Activity carried out in different geographical environments visited in the context of a two-day excursion to the Pyrenees. In these activity, students complete an authorized group work that constitutes the assessment. The specific details of the activity and of the non-attendance work linked to it will be detailed in the ADD of the subject.
C- PRACTICES (7 hours). THREE compulsory practical sessions to be carried out in person. Two of them of 1 hour each, including case studies, and a third session of 5 hours that will include a global research on a risk developed in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine facilities and its environment.
5. Assessment system
The assessment will consist of a technical report/scientific document, prepared by groups of 2- 3 students, including a complete study from the global perspective of some of the points or situations of risk observed during the field trip to the Pyrenees or the alternative work in case the student has not chosen not to do the field trip.
In this work, the teacher will play the role of tutor and evaluator, assessing the knowledge and handling of both theoretical and practical contents. For this purpose, once the field trip is finished, the students, already organized in work groups, will select the topic and, supervised by their tutor, will work on the study until completing a report that will be sent to the tutor teacher. The latter, together with the rest of the teachers participating in the activity, will assess it taking into account: the methodology used, the analysis of the information, the results obtained and the final presentation of the report. The grade will be from 0 to 10. The grade will account for 100% of the student's final grade of the subject.
Global test: Students who do not opt for continuous assessment or who do not pass the subject by this procedure, are entitled to a global test that will consist of the solving and exposition of a case study based on the theoretical contents presented in the subject. Students will present the case to be assessed in front of a group of teachers selected among the lecturers of the subject (depending on the topic of the case assigned).
